When the nights are cloudy and moonless come, Vinnie has a broken heart. His loving older brother (the narrator) shows him pictures in books and nursery rhymes to recite the moon for them, but they still lack the real. Finally, the new moon will appear during the day. The boys are celebrating their snowsuit and run out. Poetic, but simple text rings true voice of a boy of six or seven years old Shea. Falwell mixed-media illustrations bring the words of life and then some, especially in the scene where our hero (with construction paper glued to the cat's ears on his cap baseball) plays "Hey Diddle Diddle" on a violin pasta box for his sister to jump on a moon in his hat crayoned cowshed. Bold, bright colors and textures are made from paper cuts, engraving block, the tissue layers and the fabric montaged. Skills of the artist's colors will delight young and melt, often in the same picture. Children's faces are painted with dark eyes, but only the edge with personality. The text is clear, but discreetly on the sides of the printed pages. This book is a gem. Children, who all wish they had read a brother, like the Vincennes.? Karen L.
