Ruiz Zafon inherited explores the world of antiquarian books, the city of Barcelona and animosity from the Spanish Civil War. Some scenes in this thriller also on the exploration of Borges' library, the labyrinth structure, and the study by Arturo Perez-Reverte P refer hypertextuality in works such as El Club Dumas (The Club Dumas, Suma de Letras, 2000).
